Inhibiting Vanadium Dissolution of Potassium Vanadate for Stable Transparent Electrochromic Displays

Vanadium oxides are highly valued as electrochromic materials because of their multicolor capabilities. However, practical applications have been limited due to challenges such the dissolution vanadate into aqueous electrolytes, leading poor long-term stability. Herein, a solution is proposed issue by utilizing hybrid electrolyte consisting tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (TEGDME) and water. This has unique ability form robust cathode interface layer on vanadium oxide electrodes. As proof concept, zinc-anode-based transparent displays prepared using layered potassium (K2V6O16·1.5H2O, KVO) with TEGDME–water electrolyte. By soaking KVO electrode in electrolyte, it demonstrated that remarkable stability against dissolution. Furthermore, shown superior performance compared sodium (NaV3O8·1.5H2O, SVO), wide interlayer spacing. Given enhanced this material, display prototype exhibit compelling performance. such, work expected be significant catalyst for accelerating development vanadate-based displays.
